Summer 2013

  • Sep 2013: Moved this site from www.ece.ucsb.edu\~sandeepkbhat to www.sandeepkbhat.info
  • Aug 2013: Journal paper #4 accepted for publication in Development. It is titled, "Pulse propagation by a capacitive mechanism drives embryonic blood flow."

Spring 2013

  • Apr 2013: Joined Eyenuk as Member Technical Staff. We work on image analysis. for health and consumer domains. In a startup you are expected to wear many hats. In addition to doing image processing research, I also made our company logo and website www.eyenuk.com

Winter 2013

  • Mar 2013: Graduated with a Ph.D.  I am now officially an engineer and a doctor ;)
  • Feb 2013:  Defended my thesis titled, "Separation, Denoising, and Reconstruction of 4D Embryonic Cardiac Microscopy Datasets for Improved
    Visualization and Flow Analysis" 

Fall 2012

  • Dec 2012:  Got my second IEEE journal paper accepted for publication in Transactions on Medical Imaging. Onwards to Thesis defense and graduation...
  • Dec 13, 2012:  Attended the Bitplane AIC Meeting at Caltech, Pasadena, CA

Summer 2012

Winter 2012

  • Mar 2012:  Got my first IEEE journal paper accepted for publication in Transactions on Image Processing. Almost two years worth of work finally paid off :) 
  • Apr 2012: Was awarded the 2012 Spring ECE Dissertation Fellowship for my thesis titled "Separation, denoising, and reconstruction of multi-dimensional embryonic cardiac microscopy datasets for improved visualization and flow analysis."

Summer 2011

  • Jul 2011:  Participated as a mentor in the UCSB Research Mentorship Program for the third year in a row. Spring 2011

  • Jun 2011: Gave a talk titled "Improving Specificity in Bright-Field Microscopy Images of the Beating Embryonic Heart via Motion-Based Separation" at the 12th Annual UC Systemwide Bioengineering Symposium. It was one of the nine finalists for Grand Challenges in Bioengineering Award. I gave the talk in two different sessions at the symposium, so far this has been the biggest audience for any of my talks :) 

Winter 2011

  • Mar 2011: Aced my final project for MAT259 course, impressed Prof. Legrady, got an A.
  • Feb 17, 2011: My second project for MAT259 course,  The Transactions Treemap, received  a lot of praise from Prof. Legrady: "Your project is excellent. It could not get any better! Congratulations." I attribute my success in the second project to use of Eclipse IDE.
  • Jan 27, 2011: Created my first project in Java on 2D Frequency Visualization using the Processing software for the MAT259 course.

Fall 2010

  • Nov 08, 2010: Presented my paper "Separation And Pseudo-Coloring Of  High-Speed Bright-Field Microscopy Images Of The Beating Embryonic Heart," at the 44th Annual Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers, Pacific Grove, CA, USA. My wife, Malavika, also presented her paper at the same conference. Below: a picture of us at the Asilomar beach.                                          

Summer 2010

  • Sep 02, 2010: My name has been chosen for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who in America 2011 (65th Edition). I am one among 0.03% of US dwelling people chosen for inclusion in the book. I am not even sure if it's a big deal :) but it's a first for me and so it's special.
  • Jul 10, 2010: My advisor was invited to Asilomar 2010 conference to present our work (Technical Program #MP4a-3) in segmenting of cardiac tissue and blood cells in bright field miscroscopy data. I will be presenting it on his behalf.

Spring 2010

  • Jun 10, 2010: Got an A in ECE258B, Multirate Digital Signal Processing. My final critique on "Fast Haar-Wavelet Denoising of Multi-Dimensional Fluorescence Microscopy Data" was well received. Prof. Liebling commented, "Well written and thorough critique."
  • Jun 03, 2010: Our paper “Multiscale, multimodal, and multidimensional microscopy of cardiac development,” accepted for 2010 IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Systems, San Francisco, CA. 

Winter 2010

  • Jan 04, 2010: Our Optics Letters paper on OCT has been chosen for inclusion in Virtual Journal of Biomedical Optics.

Fall 2009

  • Nov 20, 2009: First Journal Paper published in Optics Letters.
  • Nov 18, 2009: Gave my PhD qualifiers (Thesis Proposal)
  • Nov 10, 2009: My first photo exhibition at Graduate Student Resource Center, UCSB

  • Dec 19, 2008: Went outside Santa Barbara for the first time since arriving here in 2007. Took a trip to the Bay Area.
  • Dec 15, 2008: Got my Maters Degree from ECE Dept. UCSB.
  • Dec 14, 2008: Got my first DSLR, the Nikon D90
  • Dec 09, 2008: Malavika cleared here Ph.D qualifying exam.
  • Oct 03, 2008: Cleared my Ph.D Screening Exam.

Summer 2008

  • Jun 30, 2008: Joined Systems BioImaging Lab under Prof. Liebling.

Spring 2008

  • Jun 15, 2008: Image Registration project was voted best project for ECE281b.
  • Mar 30, 2008: Became TA for first time for ECE160.

  • Jan, 2008: Malavika joined Vivonets Lab
  • Jan 26, 2008: Moved to West Campus Family Housing.
